Frequently Asked Questions

What is BrickStreet’s Association Group Safety Program with the Home Builders Association of West Virginia?
BrickStreet’s Association Group Safety Program is designed to promote safer workplaces, support the industry’s safety-related programs and reward their efforts by providing a premium discount to eligible members.

Why should my business participate?
Benefits to members include improved risk management and control, safer workplaces, and the eligibility to earn discounts on workers’ compensation premiums.

How does the program work?
Qualifying members are eligible for premium discounts based on the entire group’s loss ratio.

Who is eligible to participate?
To qualify, an applicant must have a three-year loss ratio of 65 percent or better.  It must also be a member in good standing with the Home Builders Association of West Virginia, hold a valid West Virginia contractors license and provide one or more services incidental to the building of the home, (for example, plumbing, electrical work, masonry, etc).

If I join the program, what are my responsibilities?
Program participants must:

bulletReport claims to BrickStreet within 48 hours of an incident
bulletDevelop and execute a return-to-work program
bulletAttend at least one safety training seminar a year
bulletMaintain a loss ratio of 65 percent or less
bulletImplement BrickStreet’s 5-Step Loss-Prevention Program

Why should I report claims to BrickStreet within 48 hours of an incident?
Prompt reporting of claims leads to faster delivery of benefits to your injured worker.  Likewise, reporting claims within 48 hours can have a favorable influence on your business’ experience modification factor – ultimately impacting your insurance premium.

Why should I implement a return-to-work program?
A return-to-work program helps return injured workers to their jobs following an injury as quickly as possible.  These types of programs can potentially lower claim costs by up to 70 percent. Other costs, including litigation expenses, overtime pay and temporary help, also can be reduced.

Why should I implement a safety and loss program?
Employers that invest in workplace safety and health can expect to reduce fatalities, injuries and illnesses. This will result in cost savings in a variety of areas, such as lowering workers' compensation costs and medical expenses, avoiding OSHA penalties, and reducing costs to train replacement employees and conduct accident investigations. In addition, employers often find that changes made to improve workplace safety and health can result in significant improvements to their organization’s productivity and financial performance.
